Thanks to Rod Key for the following:-
PARROT CROSSBILLS Photos were taken of 2 very large billed Crossbills-a pair-coming down to a drinking pool ion the Goyt Valley on 1st Dec. They were forwarded to one of the County Recorders for his views. He sent them on to 3 other good County Birders and the general opinion was that they looked good for Parrots. This was conveyed back to the finders with the proviso about whether the birds were heard to call which would have been a clincher. The bill and general structure certainly looked good when comparing the photos against photos of Parrot Crossbills on websites like Surfbirds and news apparently came out in a conversation that one of the finders has with another birder in the NW. There has been no further sign of the birds and they have been looked for. If submitted by the finders as Parrot Crossbills these would be the first in the county since 1985.
