WILLINGTON GRAVEL PITS On 22nd Sept 1 Little Grebe, 8 Great Crested Grebes, 8 Cormorants, 1 Grey Heron, 6 Wigeon, 18 Gadwall, 35 Teal, 3 Pintail, 8 Shoveler, 14 Tufted Duck, 1 Sparrowhawk
2 Hobbies-an ad and a juv-showing well from Platform 1 and 4, 1 Water Rails, 7 Snipe, 1 Greenshank and 1 Certis Warbler still singing. On 23rd Sept 1 Black Tailed Godwit.
LONG EATON GRAVEL PITS On 23rd Sept 2 juv. Arctic Terns with both still present on 24th Sept. Also on 24th Sept 5 Little Grebes, 40 Great Crested Grebes, 2 Cormorants, 1 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 6 Grey Lag Geese, 6 Gadwall, 2 Teal, 2 Shoveler, 5 Pochard, 119 Tufted Duck, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Cettis Warbler and c20 Jackdaws. On 22nd Sept 2 Green Sandpipers, 1 Yellow Legged Gull an d 2 Common Terns.
ST CHADS WATER On 24th Sept 2 Great Crested Grtebe4s, 1 Cormorant, 6 Wigeon and 26 Tufted Duck.
CHURCH WILNE RESERVOIR On 24th Sept 3 Little Grebes, 27 Great Crested Grebes, 18 Cormorants, 2 Grey Lag Geese, 14 Canada Geese, 7 Wigeon, 5 Pochard, 289 Tufted Duck, 1 Common Buzzard and 1182 Coot
AMBASTON GRAVEL PITS On 21st Sept 1 Little Grebe, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Little Egret, 14 Teal, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Snipe, 1 Green Woodpecker and a Chiffchaff
ASTON-ON-TRENT GRAVEL PITS On 20th Sept 7 Little Grebes, 17 Great Crested Grebes, 115 Cormorants. 11 Grey Herons, 34 Mute Swans, 72 Wigeon, 74 Gadwall, 29 Teal, 24 Shoveler, 1 Pochard, 97 Tufted Duck, 1 Hobby, 2 Peregrines and 14 Swallow flew SW.
DRAKELOW DWT RESERVE 18 Little Egrets roosted last weekend which may be a county record total for this species.
OGSTON RESERVOIR 5 Crossbills flew over Highordish on 24th Sept.
CARSINGTON WEATER Still 1 Garganey on 20th Sept.
CLOWNE A Red Kite on 18th Sept.
WYVER LANE DWT RESERVE Still a juv. Black Tailed Godwit on 18/21st Sept.
CARR VALE DWT RESERVE A Grey Plover flew South over the Reserve on 25th Sept. The Pink Footed Goose again present on 14/20th, Max counts of Wildfowl were 18 Wigeon on 21st Sept, 33 Gadwall on 20/21st, 23 Teal on 16th and 3 Pintail and a Shoveler on 22nd. 15 Cormorants on 19th with 20 on 22nd. A Red Kite on 22nd was s10th record for the year and was actually on the ground. Common Buzzard peaked at 10 on 21st and one/two Hobbies single Peregrines notes most days. Waders remain scarce withy 2 Ruffs flying West on 21st along with a Green Sandpiper. 2 Golden Plover on 14th with 5 on 14th and 1 on 16th. Visible migration was reasonable with counts of 380 Swallows and 162 Meadow Pipits on 22nd, 150 House Martins on 14th. A Yellow Wagtail on 17/19/22nd with 2 on 21st. The first Siskins were 8 flying through on 18th with 2 on 20/21st. Finally a Reed Warbler on 14th.
