The Ogston Bird walk on 3 August 2013 was led by Paul Beard and there were 15 who joined the walk. It was a lovely morning with plenty of sunshine but with the possibility of heavy showers later. The walk taken was the Brackenfield Loop and started from the West Bank car park.
40 species were recorded. Blackbird, Black-headed Gull, Blue Tit, Buzzard, Canada Goose, Carrion Crow, Chaffinch, Chiffchaff, Collared Dove, Common Tern, Coot, Cormorant, Goldcrest, Goldfinch, Great Crested Grebe, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Great Tit, Greenfinch, Grey Heron, Greylag Goose, House Martin, House Sparrow, Lapwing, Magpie, Mallard, Moorhen, Nuthatch, Oystercatcher, Pied Wagtail, Reed Bunting, Robin, Rook, Spotted Flycatcher, Swallow, Swift, Tufted Duck, Woodpigeon, Wren, Yellowhammer.
There were a good variety of butterflies seen — Large White, Small White, Green Veined White, Ringlet, Red Admiral, Small Copper, Peacock, Gatekeeper and Small Tortoiseshell. A Silver Y moth was also seen.
