JMNR – Sunday 5th May 2013

Birds currently on nests on the reserve include Mallard, Moorhen and Blackbird. In addition a second Blackbird pair may have a nest, a Willow Warbler was carrying nesting material into brambles, and a pair of Whitethroat are moving around together.
A male Smooth Newt in full breeding ‘plumage’, and one other, were visible in the top pond and a Water Vole was hiding in the Flag Iris in the bottom pond. Toads appear to have returned to land after breeding.
Butterflies out were Peacock, Orange Tip and several very active, and hence unidentified, Whites.
