JMNR – Saturday 13th April 2013

Today’s Butterfly Transect yielded the reserve’s first butterfly sighting of the year, a single Comma, basking(?) on the ground beside the Firepit.
Four Swallows, Sand Martin, two Chiffchaff, Chaffinch, Long-tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Nuthatch, Wren, and a female Blackbird sitting on a nest in the Old Pumphouse.
Several Water Boatmen and Whirligig Beetles, and frogspawn in the middle pond. Seven frogs with frogspawn in the backwater near the weir. Paul Beard saw a Water Vole in the brook and the raft had a WV latrine on it.
In flower – Lesser Celandine, Daisy, Coltsfoot, Hairy Bittercress, Snow Drops, Daffodils, Opposite-leaved Golden Saxifrage.
