Thursday 11th April 2013

Three first-winter Little Gulls arrived at 0820 and were present until 1220 at least, the second record so far this year after a blank in 2012. The first Willow Warbler sang intermittently on the west bank between the hides, a full ten days or so later than normal. Hirundines had increased with c60 Sand Martins and c10 Swallows. The Redwing flock had also grown with c90 vocally advertising their collective ‘zugunruhe’. The area in front of ‘oak tree’ has proved attractive to Snipe recently and twenty-five were counted early this morning.
