OGSTON RESERVOIR The Red Necked Grebe still present on 6th Feb… The ad Mediterranean Gull again roosted on 5th Feb.
CARSINGTON WATER The first winter Little Gull still present on 6th Feb. Just 1 Great Northern Diver was seen on 5th Feb. 4 Red Crested Pochard on 1st Feb.
WYVER LANE DWT RESERVE Still 2 Bitterns there on 5th Feb with 1 on 6th Feb.
A5132 NEAR TWYFORD Still 5 adult Whooper Swans on 6th Feb with 124 Mute Swans. No sign at all this week of the family party of 7 Bewick’s Swans.
CARR VALE NATURE RESERVE The adult Mediterranean Gull again present on 4th Feb.
WILLINGTON GRAVEL PITS 6 Curlew and 4 Oystercatchers on 6th Feb.
LOCKO PARK LAKE A drake Smew and a Red Kite on 5th Feb. The drake Smew still present on 6th Feb, other birds here on that date were 2 Great Crested Grebes, 4 Cormorants, 1 Grey Heron, 82 Grey Lag Geese, 65 Canada Geese, 1 hybrid Grey Lag x Canada Goose, 3 Pochard, 7 Tufted Duck, 1 Goosander, 1 Common Buzzard, 3 Fieldfare, 41 Redwing, 6 Long Tailed tits, 3 Nuthatch, 1 Tree Creeper, 1 Jay and c15 Goldfinch. The Smew would be a site first here and a superb bird on such a small water.
AMBASTON GRAVEL PITS 2 “redhead” Smew on the public pit on 6th Feb. Also present 1 Little Grebe, 1 Cormorant,2 Shelduck, 76 Wigeon, 38 Gadwall, 2 Teal, 9 Pochard, 15 Tufted Duck, 2 Common Buzzards, 49 Coot, c200 Back Headed Gulls and 3 Common Gulls.
LONG EATON GRAVEL PITS On 5th Feb 5 Little Grebes, 12 Great Crested Grebes, 5 Cormorants, 6 Grey Herons, 243 Wigeon, 11 Teal, 46 Pochard, 65 Tufted Duck, 8 Goldeneye and 3 Goosanders.
ST CHARDS WATER On 5th Feb 1 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Cormorants, 8 Grey Lag Geese, 4 Wigeon, 2 Pochard, 12 Tufted Duck, 4 Goosanders, c20 Yellowhammers and c15 Reed Buntings.
CHURCH WILNE RESERVOIR On 5th Feb 3 Little Grebes, 6 Great Crested Grebes, 2 Cormorants, 8 Wigeon, 23 Gadwall, 2 Shoveler, 14 Pochard, 165 Tufted Duck, 11 Goldeneye, 2 Common Buzzards, 212 Coot and 1 Common Gull
WAXWINGS On 4th Feb 15 in Old Tupton and 15 in the ALDI Car Park in Long Eaton, on 5th Feb 25 in Chesterfield at Loundsley Green, 46 in Codnor on Meadow Avenue, 12 in the ALDI Car Park in Long Eaton and 15 in Heanor. On 6th Feb 106 were in Codnor on Meadow Avenue and 30 in Belper by Belper School entrance on John o’ Gaunt Way.
