OGSTON RESERVOIR The Red Necked Grebe still present on 30th Jan.
WRAGGS QUARRY The Great Grey Shrike still present on 1st Feb.
WYVER LANE The 2 Bitterns still present on 1st Feb.
TWYFORD 2 Adult Whooper Swans were found with a Mute Swan flock in a field just North of the A5132 road by the Stenson Bubble turn off on 30th Jan. On 31st Jan there were 5 adult Whooper Swans with this flock and they were still present on 1st Feb. Birds can be viewed from either of the 2 Gateways into this field but do not enter the field.
FOREMARK RESERVOIR A juv Glaucous Gull was found in the roost at 4.30.p.m. on 1st Feb. It showed well from the main car park. A second winter Caspian Gull put in a brief appearance before flying out SW and 2 1st winter Yellow Legged Gulls roosted. The roost consisted of 15,000 Black Headed Gulls, c750 Common Gulls, c2000 Lesser Black Backed Gulls, c300 Herring Gulls and c200 Great Black Backed Gulls. Also here were 1 Little Grebe, 4 Great Crested Grebes, 9 Cormorants, 144 Mallard, 5 Tufted Duck, 6 Goosanders and a Common Buzzard.
RAYNESWAY A Little Egret on 1st Feb with a report of 2 Little Gulls. Details of these 2 Little Gulls would be gratefully received by the undersigned please as this species is very scarce at this time of year
CARSINGTON WATER A 1st winter Little Gull was found here on 27th Jan and was still present on 29th Jan. The 3 Great Northern Divers still present on 29th Jan.
DEEP WATER PIT, STEETLEY QUARRY The imm. drake Velvet Scoter still present on 31st Jan. Access arrangements as before.
CROMFORD WHARF Still 16 Hawfinches here on 29th Jan but they were very elusive.
HAZLEWOOD A Red Kite on 28th Jan with 2 on 29th.
LONG EATON GRAVEL PITS On 29th Jan 2 Little Grebes, 17 Great Crested Grebes, 10 Cormorants, 5 Mute Swans, 108 Wigeon, 1 Teal, 29 Pochard, 69 Tufted Duck, 8 Goldeneye, 10 Goosanders, 1 Kestrel, 1 Water Rail, 1 Common Gull and 3 Sky Larks flying SW.
ST CHADS WATER On 29th Jan 6 Wigeon, 2 Pochard and 9 Tufted Duck.
CHURCH WILNE RESERVOIR On 29th Jan 10 Little Grebes, 4 Great Crested Grebes, 13 Cormorants, 4 Wigeon, 3 Teal, 1 Shoveler, 18 Pochard, 128 Tufted Duck, 18 Goldeneye, 1 Kestrel, 226 Coot, 1 Green Woodpecker and a Grey Wagtail.
WILLINGTON GRAVEL PITS On 30th Jan 2 Great Crested Grebes, 7 Cormorants, 3 Grey Herons, c360 Wigeon, 13 Gadwall, 24 Teal, 5 Pochard, 37 Tufted Duck, 7 Goldeneye and 6 Snipe. On 1st Feb 6 Pintail here
R.TRENT INGLEBY On 31st Jan 1 Cormorant, 2 Grey Lag Geese, 30 Canada Geese and a Goldeneye flew West.
R.TRENT, SWARKESTONE LAKES On 31st Jan in fields opposite the lakes c280 Lapwings, c2500 Black Headed Gulls, c25 Common Gulls, 10 Lesser Black Backed Gulls and c100 Starlings.
WAXWINGS On 29th Jan 57 were in Chaddesden on Max Road, 20 were on Cherry Tree Hill, Chaddesden and 35 were by Langley Mill Cricket Ground. On 30th Jan 50 were at Shipley View, Ilkeston. On 1st Feb 40 were in South Normanton, 15 at Birdholme and 8 in Alvaston at the Keldholme Lane roundabout.
